Judge and Mrs. Bert Tunks Endowed Scholarship

Established in 1988 by Annelle Tunks in memory of her husband, former Chief Justice of the 14th District Court of Appeals, board member, and adjunct professor, Bert Tunks. Upon the passing of Mrs. Tunks, the scholarship was updated to include Mrs. Tunks name. The scholarship is awarded to second or third year students with academic merit and financial need. The committee has, for several years, awarded this scholarship based on the following additional qualification: “Unique background/work experience (i.e. first family member to attend college/graduate school, self-support through college, etc.)” It is not clear whether this is an informal criterion imposed by the committee or a formal one imposed by the donor through writings or oral correspondence that have since been lost to time.
