Association of Women Attorneys

I, along with my colleagues DeDe Davenport and Fermeen Fazal, are reaching out on behalf of the Association of Women Attorneys Foundation to share the 2023 AWAF Scholarship and Fellowship Application. The AWAF awards scholarships to one (1) 2L and one (1) 3L female-identifying law student from each of the three Houston-area law schools. In 2022, the scholarship recipients from South Texas College of Law Houston were Chelsea Ogan and Jazmyne Betters, both of whom were recognized at our 2022 Premier Women in Law Luncheon.
Additionally, the AWAF Pro Bono Fellowship Program partners with non-profit organizations to select two third-year scholarship applicants from all of the applicants, who will serve the community as a fellow with the non-profit for one year. For the 2023-2024 Fellowship Year, the AWAF is partnering with Houston Volunteer Lawyers and Tahirih Justice Center.
Please circulate/post the attached application so that it is available to South Texas students. Applications are due at 5 pm on February 28, 2023. As with prior years, our winners will be announced at the 2023 Premier Women in Law Luncheon on April 11, 2023. If you would like information on how your law school can purchase a table for the Luncheon, to support and recognize the students we select, please let me know.
In the past, we have also held an information session at each of the schools to give potential applicants an opportunity to ask questions about the application process and learn more about the AWAF. Please let me whether we can do the same again this year and, if so, what dates during the weeks of January 23 or January 30 work for that event. The information session is open to 1L, 2Ls and 3Ls, as we have found that 1Ls are interested in learning about the opportunity for future consideration. We’re hoping this session can take place at or near lunch, and we will provide pizza or boxed lunches for attendees.
