TYLA First-Generation Law Student Scholarship Program
First-Generation Law Student Scholarship Program
2025-2026
TYLA Organizational History & Committee Overview
The Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) began over 80 years ago as the Texas Junior Bar Association. From an initial membership of just 200 lawyers, TYLA now serves over 34,000 members. Regular membership includes all members of the State Bar of Texas who are licensed twelve (12) years or fewer at the start of each fiscal year (June 1).TYLA supports both attorneys and the public through its committee-driven programming and service projects. In addition to its commitment to the profession, TYLA proudly supports law students across the state.
TYLA’s Commitment to First-Generation Law Students
TYLA recognizes the challenges faced by first-generation law students—those who are the first in their immediate family to attend law school. These students often navigate legal education and career planning without the benefit of inherited professional experience. TYLA is proud to offer this scholarship to celebrate their accomplishments, alleviate financial burden, and support the future of the profession. This program is part of TYLA’s broader effort to support accessibility and inclusion in the legal field by uplifting those who represent the first step toward generational progress in their families.
